Maine Dept of Environmental Protection has issued a warning that anyone fishing in McGrath Pond should not eat more than two fish from the lake per month as a result of  their discovery of PFAS in tests on fish samples .  The following graphic shows testing results of conductance of the water in various part of the lake done by Colby in cooperation with MPSLA personal. This conductance has been shown to have a high correlation to PFAS in the lake. The conductance is highest on the east side of the lake in the area near    the Oakland Landfill.

My mother, Frances Fox Sandmel, and my grandmother, Hortense Langsdorf Fox, adored the lakes and the woods. They could identify many of the flora and fauna we encountered, and taught me reverence for the natural world. I also love the lakes – especially exploring them in a kayak, which allows me to go slow and observe closely.
